Beyond
the Pale
.
The band
has developed their unique sound by blending bagpipe and fiddle
tunes with the traditional songs of Ireland and Scotland accented
with an array of other traditional instruments. Band members have
studied traditional Celtic music in Ireland and Scotland including
courses in Irish traditional music at The University of Limerick.
Beyond The Pale have been performing together since 1993.
Gordon
McLeod plays fiddle, guitar, sings lead and backing vocals and composes
original tunes and songs that the band performs. For example, his
composition "Angel on the 7th Stair" is the title track of the band's
latest CD. Gordon has been playing music from early childhood and
has performed throughout the U.S.A.and abroad in various bands and
as a solo artist.
Patrick
Thurmond plays a host of instruments including Highland bagpipes,
small pipes, mandolin, whistles, harmonica and guitar. He also occasionally
bursts into hilarious renditions of popular pub songs. Patrick is
also an accomplished classical guitarist. He has been performing
for many years.
Christy
McLeod is the bright spark of the band whose natural soulfulness
shows not only in her beautiful singing but in her wit and instant
rapport with her audiences as well. Christy began performing in
her early teens. She inherited her Dad's love of bagpipe and fiddle
music and so naturally ended up in a bagpipe and fiddle band. She
plays guitar, harmonica, and bodhran and sings lead and backing
vocals. She also shakes a mean tambourine.
Beyond
the Pale has recorded two CD's: Life Is All Chequered, which is
currently available on disc and cassette; and Angel On The Seventh
Stair, on disc only. The band is available for club and festival
performances, as well as private celebrations and weddings. For
