Traditional
Flute and Bodhran
Grey Larsen
and Paddy League, Instructors
Flutist
Grey Larsen will teach Irish music to the group by ear, focusing
on stylistic fundamentals. Players with little or no experience
or confidence at learning in this 'aural tradition' way will gain
valuable skills and insights. Ornamentation, articulation, phrasing
and improvisation/variation will be addressed. In addition Grey
Larsen will talk about the historical evolution of Irish traditional
flute practice.
Paddy
League will assist and accompany Grey in this workshop. Paddy League
will provide a historical, technical, and stylistic overview of
the native Irish frame drum. Right- and left-hand technique, tone,
embellishments, and tonal variation will be focused on, with an
emphasis on creativity and application of the instrument in a wide
variety of musical settings. Intermediate and advanced players will
benefit from the valuable stylistic ideas and techniques presented,
and newcomers to the bodhrán (and to Irish music in general) will
gain a firm foundation and understanding of this highly rhythmic
instrument and its music.
